An unforgettable stay at La Chaumière in the Haut Verdon
You’ll be staying at ‘La Chaumière’ in Colmars-les-Alpes, a family home handed down through 5 generations and a former holiday resort dating back to the early 20th century. With the aim of creating a friendly atmosphere, the hosts welcome families, sports enthusiasts, travellers and nature lovers.
The house is ideal for entertaining groups, with a large, bright, fully-equipped kitchen, a wood-panelled dining room, a large 1900s-style lounge, a laundry area and several bedrooms and shower rooms. The house is surrounded by a large, flower-filled, shady garden with tall, beautiful trees, including a two-hundred-year-old sequoia. In summer, you can relax in the hammock or on a chaise longue in the shade of the lime tree.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
DAY 1 – ARRIVAL AT THE GÎTE LA CHAUMIERE
When arriving at the gîte, take a moment to drop off your luggage and make yourself comfortable. Then take the opportunity to discover the village of Colmars-les-Alpes, a fortified medieval town. A former border town, it’s great fun to wander through its authentic streets, drinking from the fountains along the way, and visiting its churches and forts.
You can also climb up to the Fort de France and then visit the Fort de Savoie, a superb 17th-century military structure. Here you can discover the permanent exhibition ‘Histoire(s) d’un fort’ and the immersive exhibition ‘Le récit de Vauban’.
In the evening, treat yourself to a delicious, hearty dinner in the village, sure to delight your taste buds and recharge your batteries for the adventures to come.
DAY 2 – HIKING IN THE GORGES DE SAINT PIERRE
Discover the Gorges de Saint Pierre on a magnificent hike accompanied by a state-certified guide. You’ll follow a loop of paths that will take you to the heart of this spectacular site. Take the opportunity to observe the unique and unspoilt flora and fauna that inhabit the region. When you arrive at the refuge, you’ll meet the warden, Bénédicte, and can take a well-earned break to enjoy your picnic. On the way back, marvel at the breathtaking beauty of the scenery and plunge into the heart of this untamed nature!

DAY 3 – DOWNHILL WITH A VIEW
Activity of the day among:
*Mountain biking
Explore the magnificent Pont de la Serre route and discover waterfalls, natural pools, pastures and isolated sheepfolds, woods and forests on an electric mountain bike. Take advantage of this excursion to stop along the way to refresh yourself and admire the magnificent scenery. An unforgettable experience that combines sport, nature and relaxation. You can have a picnic in the countryside and return in the afternoon.

* Summer sledging
Near the chairlift, at the foot of the Col d’Allos, a multi-season rail sledging awaits you. A 995 m loop, with a journey time of between 4 and 7 minutes. A series of hairpin bends, brisk acceleration, a bridge over the road to the Col, then a very aerial spin, immediately followed by a series of sharp bends. The course is dotted with jumps, series of waves, chicanes and flip-flaps, leaving an unforgettable memory in complete safety. An attraction for all the family.
DAY 4 – AQUATIC ACTIVITY

* Tubing in the Gorges de Fontgaillarde
Close to canoeing and rafting, tubing is an adrenalin-fuelled whitewater sport practised on an individual buoy. You use a paddle to steer your buoy down the river in the Fontgaillarde gorges. Alongside your friends’ or family’s buoys, you’ll enjoy a fun and friendly tubing descent on the Verdon! You can also take a break for a swim and enjoy the lush green surroundings of the gorges.

Join your canyoning guide as he guides you through the emerald waters of the Lance, offering breathtaking natural scenery. Equipped with all the necessary equipment, you can enjoy thrilling activities such as abseiling, swimming in natural pools and, if you wish, exciting jumps. Get ready to experience thrills and create unforgettable memories in this exceptional setting.
DAY 5 – DISCOVERY HIKE OF THE ALLOS ECRIN
Nestling in the heart of an imposing mountain cirque, Lac d’Allos is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Mercantour National Park. This family hike will take you first to the refuge overlooking the lake, then around it to admire this jewel of the Alpes de Haute Provence from every angle. Take your time to admire the local flora and fauna, and if you’re lucky you may even spot marmots, chamois or eagles.

DAY 6 – BACK TO CALM
Your adventure is coming to an end! After a hearty breakfast in the morning, you’ll prepare for your departure. Take advantage of this last day to relax and recharge your batteries. You can opt for a final stroll through Colmars-les-Alpes to capture some memories of this magnificent village in the Haut Verdon.

Why is there a choice between 2 activities several days?
Some of the activities may be subject to availability and age conditions. They may therefore be unavailable at the time of your visit. If that’s not the case, we will let you choose the activity of the day that suits you best.
What level of physical fitness is required for the activities?
The level of difficulty is ‘moderate’, which means that you need to be a bit sporty to be able to do a series of activities over several days. Please read our descriptions carefully and call us if you have any questions. Equipment is provided for canyoning, tubing and mountain biking.
To take part in this stay, children must be over 8 years old. To take part in water activities, you must be able to swim.
What happens in case of bad weather or poor conditions to practice the activities?
The activities you are about to undertake are subject to weather risks. Verdon Voyages may therefore decide to cancel or modify part of the activity. Such cancellations are rare. In this case, we will propose a replacement activity depending on the weather conditions. However, if no replacement activity is possible, we will compensate you for part of the price of the holiday. This compensation will not exceed 50% of the price charged, as accommodation and meals are not refundable.

How to come to La Chaumière gîte?
La Chaumière is located in Colmars-les-Alpes. We recommend that you come by car, which is the most direct way to reach the accommodation. Your vehicle will also be useful for getting to some of your activities.
Alternatively, you can come by train to Digne-les-Bains station and then take buses 49 and 430, or hire a car on site.
How are meals organised during your stay?
The gîte offers a half-board option, which means that breakfast and a picnic lunch are included in your stay if you choose the option. You can start your day with a delicious breakfast and finish it with a hearty dinner in a village restaurant. Take advantage of this opportunity to explore the regional gastronomy and taste the typical dishes of the area. La Chaumière also has a self-service kitchen if you wish to dine in.

You can register online by paying a deposit of 30% of the total cost of your stay. Our teams will send you a payment link for the balance on D-15.
What are safety conditions for this stay in Haut Verdon?
When you register, you confirm your age, fitness and sporting ability. Your guide may judge that you clearly do not have the necessary level to carry out the activity.
Your guides and Verdon Voyages will provide all the safety equipment and materials required for the descent. Unless otherwise stated, all activities are supervised by a state-certified guide.
Cancellation policy:
Before D-180: Full refund
Between D-180 and D-61: a handling fee of 5% of the reservation amount will be retained.
Between D-60 and D-8: the deposit paid at the time of booking will be retained.
After D-7: no refund will be made in the event of cancellation.
We therefore encourage you to plan your stay carefully and take all the necessary precautions to avoid any unforeseen cancellations.
